Discovering Career Happiness by Pursuing Passion, Values, and Growth.

As the saying goes, “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” But how do you find happiness in your career?

Let me start by saying that finding happiness in your career is not a one-size-fits-all formula. What works for one person may not work for another. However, there are a few universal truths that may be applied to the lives of the majority of people.

  1. Pursue your passion

As cliche as it may sound, pursuing your passion is crucial for finding happiness in your career. It’s not always easy to figure out what your passion is, but it’s worth taking the time to explore different things that interest you. For me when I do something I’m passionate about work feels like a chore or hobby.

  • Find a job that aligns with your value. If your job doesn’t align with your values it’s going to be more difficult to find happiness in your career.
  • Keep learning and growing. Learning and growing in your career is essential for finding happiness. It’s important to continually challenge yourself and expand your skill set. I make it a priority to learn something new everyday of my life even if it’s as little as a new word.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “that all sounds great, but easier said than done.” Trust me, I’ve been there. I spent years in jobs that didn’t align with my values or passions, and it wasn’t until I took a chance and pursued my passion that I found happiness in my career.

I worked as a manager in a Care home, and even though I had the skills, it wasn’t my dream job.  I felt unfulfilled and dreaded going to work every day. It wasn’t until I took a certification in project management that I started making my way into a career I loved. It wasn’t easy, and I had to work really hard to build my portfolio and establish myself in the industry, but it was worth it. Now, I wake up every day excited to work from my home office, managing projects, and I feel fulfilled in a way that I never did before.

Naturally, not everyone has the luxury of leaving their career and dedicating their time to their interest. However, it doesn’t follow that you can’t be happy in your job. You may find a career that you enjoy doing even if it takes some time and effort. All you need is the correct attitude and a little bit of luck.

It is possible to find career satisfaction.

And who knows, perhaps you’ll reflect on your decision to take a chance and conclude that it was the best thing you ever did for yourself.
